Jake Johnson was named Head Coach of the Minnesota Mallards in 2025, bringing an extensive coaching background and a passion for developing players at all levels. With a career that spans from U8 to Junior hockey, Coach Johnson is committed to building a competitive, player-first environment and fostering long-term success in the NAHL.

Throughout his coaching career, Coach Johnson has led multiple teams to regional, state, and national tournaments. This spring, he will lead the U14 MN Green Giants Prospects team to the prestigious National Tournament in April. His leadership and dedication to player development have been key factors in helping young athletes reach their full potential and advance to higher levels of hockey.

In addition to his extensive team coaching experience, Coach Johnson has dedicated years to developing goaltenders. As the founder of A.H.E.A.D. Training and a former coach with MEGA Goaltending, he has specialized in training goalies at all levels. This expertise not only elevates his coaching credentials but also provides him with a comprehensive understanding of the game, enhancing his ability to develop players across all positions.

As the AAA Director for the Minnesota Mallards, Coach Johnson has shaped the development programs for U16 and U18 Prospects teams, further enhancing his ability to work with elite-level players. His coaching philosophy is centered around creating a strong team culture, focusing on skill development, mental toughness, and fostering a disciplined, hard-working atmosphere.

Before transitioning to a full-time coaching career, Coach Johnson spent seven years as a teacher, where he developed a deep understanding of the importance of mentorship and the ability to communicate effectively with athletes of all ages. His background as an educator continues to shape his coaching style, emphasizing the growth of players both on and off the ice.
